Shooting it: Asuka at Amagasaki (One Softbox)

Intro

I’ve already posted as a separate strobist article (CLICK HERE) some other photographs from the same shooting day, and now I have another setup from that photoshoot! It is a photoshoot of Asuka from some time ago, we are shooting in some area with a lot of temples in Amagasaki, Hyogo! In this photoshoot I’ve been shooting with only one light, and at that time I was concentrating more on the 80×60 Softbox! Believe me it took me a while to find whatever of shot from this photoshoot that is showing the light setup… here I come with this one!

Gear

Camera is Canon 5D Mark II nothing much to say about it! The lens is Canon 135mm F/2 USM

Strobe – I am using one light for this shot, the flash is Canon580 EXII That’s been my first strobe and I was using it for about 3 years as a main one before I dropped it from some high location!  

Modifier – My modifier for this shoot is a 80×60 Gridded Softbox, one that I still have and often use on location! I like how it directs the light! 

Triggers – at that time I was using Pocket Wizard II Plus triggers! 

機材

カメラは Canon 5D Mark II です！レンズはCanon 135mm F/2 USM です

当時使ってたストロボは Canon580 EXIIだった、ストロボはじめたときはそのストロボが最初でした、3年ぐらいメインのストロボで使ってました！

アクセサリーは80×60のグリッド付ソフトボックス、私のもっとも好きなモディファイヤーのひとつです！いまだにロケでよく使っています！

ラジオスレーブは Pocket Wizard II Plus です！

Lighting

For this photoshoot I’m using a single light, the 80×60 Gridded Softbox, since I wanted a little more directional light towards her! It was already a few hours after the sunrise, and I have been already on the limit of the sync speed of my camera!  I wanted to shoot at wide open aperture on my 135mm F/2 lens, so I had to drop my ISO settings at 50, and had my shutter speed at 1/200 sec! I trigger the strobe by Pocket Wizard II Plus, but since I only had one trigger! This is a really simple setup that I have been using quite often at that time! My strobe was at around 1/4th power setting!

ライティング

ライティングの説明です、とてもシンプルなライティングを使っています！その撮影で使ってた135ミリのレンズで開放F/2で撮りたかったので、ISO-50で、ちょうどシンクロスピードぎりぎりで撮影できました、シャッタースピードはは1/200です。ストロボは1灯だけで、モディファイヤーはグリッド付の80ｘ60センチのソフトボックス、パワーは1/4ぐらいでした！今でもよく使ってるアクセサリーです！日が出てから、数時間たってたので、もうかなり明るい曇ってる日でした！ラジオスレーブはPocket Wizard II Plus です！

Final Results

Here are 3 of the shots from this photoshoot! I’m using exactly the same settings for all of them! Model in the photoshoot is Asuka, The models I often shoot with, know that quite often my shoots will be at kinda messed up locations, and I want to make sure that they will be motivated to go to the edge for a good photo! Of course I need to give them a reason for that by shooting great photos, I think that how they become trusting me when I tell them my ideas!
