Shooting it: Extremely cool and high location photoshoot

Intro

This time I’m uploading another few shots, with a dramatic making video like last time I did! It was a really windy day, and and if you are afraid if high places don’t watch the behind the scenes video! I’m using only one light for the whole shoot! Check out the info below for some off-shots and tips on how how I lit the model from above! I hope you like it, so I might be posting some other strobist making videos soon!

BTS Video / メイキングビデオ

Gear

Camera is Canon 5D Mark II nothing much to say about it! The lens is Canon 135mm F/2 USM

Strobe – I am using one light for this shot, the flash is Nikon SB-26 That was time when I have been using the old Nikons quite a lot! Another reason is that I didn’t wanna risk any other of my strobes fly away in the river!

Modifier – My modifier for this shoot is a Shoot-Through Umbrella, one that I still have and often use on location! I like how it directs the light! 

Triggers – at that time I was using Pocket Wizard II Plus triggers!

当時使ってたストロボは Nikon SB-26だった、このモデルのストロボは昔結構使ってました！まぁ、ストロボは何十メートル落ちるなら、安いストロボでよかったからね！笑

アクセサリーはルーセントアンブレラー、一番早かったからですね！

ラジオスレーブは Pocket Wizard II Plus です！

Lighting

For this photoshoot I’m using a single light, Shoot-through Umbrella, since it was the only light source I had and I know it could be held in this angle without losing any parts in the river! It was a cloudy day an I was at the limit of my sync speed, and since I wanted to shoot at wide open aperture on my 135mm F/2 lens, so I had to drop my ISO settings as low as 50, and had my shutter speed at varying between 1/160 and 1/250 sec! I trigger the strobe by Pocket Wizard II Plus, but since I only had one trigger! This is a really simple setup that I have been using quite often at that time! My strobe was at around 1/2nd power setting!

ライティング

ライティングの説明です、とてもシンプルなライティングを使っています、ルーセントアンブレラーだけです！その理由が、風がすごかったのと、落ちる可能性が高かったので、アンブレラーがこのアングルで一番固定しやすかったからです！その撮影で使ってた135ミリのレンズで開放F/2で撮りたかったので、ISO-50で、ちょうどシンクロスピードぎりぎりで撮影できました、シャッタースピードはは1/160～1/250ぐらいでした。ストロボは1灯だけで、パワーは1/2ぐらいでした！今でもよく使ってるアクセサリーです！その日はかなり曇ってました！ラジオスレーブはPocket Wizard II Plus です！

Final Results

Here are a few of the shots from this photoshoot! I’m using exactly the same settings for all of them! Model in the photoshoot is Asano and hair makeup is my friend 96. The models I often shoot with, know that quite often my shoots will be at kinda messed up locations, and I want to make sure that they will be motivated to go to the edge for a good photo! Of course I need to give them a reason for that by shooting great photos, I think that how they become trusting me when I tell them my ideas!
