Shooting it: Golden Hour

In this article I will be uploading couple of shots from the coolest time to shoot in the day – the Golden Hour! We have been shooting in a studio that day, and this shot has nothing to do with that shoot, but after it we just wanted to have some more fun, so we found a park around and shot until it was too dark and too cold to concentrate! We had some really nice orange tones from the sunset, which I tried to make a bit stronger, using some gelled flash with orange filter! Also the model happened to be with some really cool body art from a previous day shoot, so that was a good chance to use it too, as the painting coundn’t stay longer than a couple of days! And model for the shoot is: Yuzuki, we are having a lot of fun shooting together recently, so I will be uploading other shots of her! And also we had a really cool team, which is the best thing about photography! After the lighting section I will upload also the profiles and info about our crew! Also it was such a challenge to find a proper setup shot, so I’ve been asking the other people to send me theirs, but unfortunately noone had a shot with the model and the softbox, I have to shoot that everytime!
Lighting setup

Strobist info:

Bare Canon 580EXII in a 80×60 Softbox – Camera rightNikon SB-26 with a CTO filter (I think it was a 1/2 cto) behind herCanon flash is triggered by a Pocket Wizard II Plus, and the Nikon flash behind her is triggered by optical slave from the Canon flash.

Location

The location for this shoot was a park close to Suita in Osaka, nothing special, just nice and simple place, as we wanted to shoot outside after before that we had a studio shoot around there! You can see the setup & result from the srudio shoot as well here: CLICK! On that day we had some really beautiful orange sunset, which turned out to be a great result in our shoot! Anyway it was falling off quite quickly so we had to be very fast in the shoot!

Lighting Information

Lighting here was made of 2 strobes, one as a main light for the model, and the other to add some sunset mood with some orange tones! So as the main light, I was using a Canon 580EXII in a 80×60 Softbox, which I’m using on location quite often! Also behind her I decided to put some orange filtered flash, as the sunset did not bring any rays of light to the place where we were! I wanted to have some orange tones in her here, so that was the way to do it! As a flash I was using a Nikon SB-26, pretty handy with the Optical slave feature, considering that I had only a pair of Pocket Wizards available at that time!

Gear Used

I am using my Canon 5DMII with a Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM lens, and as you can see the settings it is set at wide open aperture, F2! Click on the link to see other images with that awesome lens! Also I’m using a full size Canon 5DMII, they are a pretty good combination  As you can see I’m mixing Canon & Nikon flashes, well I’m doing that pretty often!
