Shooting it: Rainy Blossoms

For this article I’m using what I would usually use if I go somewhere with only one modifier and I need to be quick in the setup – a shoot-through umbrella! I am preparing another article with example photos taken only with this type of light, I hope it’s going to be out soon!

Strobist Setup

My main and only light for this shoot was the Canon 580EXII with a shoot-through umbrella as a modifier! Shoot through umbrella is the modifier I usually recommend to people who are just starting to practice strobist stuff, it is easy to use and at the same time will give you a lot of experience and make you think how to fix problems caused by it! I set the light this time not on the direction of her face, but opposite to add some fill and make the red umbrella pop (this is for the fence shot) Since it was a rainy day, it was a bid dark outside I I had even raised my ISO to around 400 shooting at wide open aperture and at the sync speed of my camera 1/200!

この撮影の照明はキャノン580EXIIで、アンブレラーを使っています 。アンブレラーをワンライトだけのセッティングはよく初心者にお勧めします！アンブレラーライティングをちゃんとできるとほかのアクセサリーも使いやすくなると思います！そして、安い、スピードが速いので、とても便利です！ストロボだけは日中シンクロでPocket Wizard II Plusで光らしています。

Gear

For this shot I’m using my Canon 5D Mark II, which is my main camera! Actually that camera has already more than 250,000 shots taken which is making me wonder when is going to leave me! 😉 The lens I’m using is the Canon 135mm f/2 lens, well I guess in about 90 percent of the situations I’m using it wide open at F/2, I love the way it compress space! As I already mentioned the light modifier is a shoot-through umbrella! I am triggering the flash by Pocket Wizard II Plus!

Also since it was a bit windy day, and I needed to make sure that my flash is not going to get wet from the rain, or blown away from the wind you can see on the setup image above how I have secured it to the tree, and I have it in a plastic bag! Those bungee cords are so handy that I usually have at least 10 of them on each shoot, as they are helping me in many different situations!

その撮影ではキャノンの5Dマーク2を使っています。レンズはキャノン EF 135mm f/2 USMです。今使ってるボディはもう250,000のシャッター数を超えてるので、いつまで使えるのかなぁ！135mmは私の好きなレンズでポートレートではお勧めです！ほとんどの場合はレンズ1本で撮影行くときはそのレンズもっていきます！この撮影も開放F2で撮っています、実はこのレンズはほとんど開放で使っています！
