Shooting it: Time for Fun!

Many people have been asking me about this photo, so now I’m uploading the strobist setup shot and some behind the scenes info for it! It’s been my most viewed photo on my flickr account, with already more than 23,000 views. That’s a shoot of my friends Ani & Vera, they are Bulgarian as me. On that day I was really getting ready to shoot in the rain, but in the end came with this result! 🙂 Wanna have more days like this!

So here are the details for the shoot
Strobist info:

Canon 580EXII with a shoot-through Umbrella – Camera Left (Up)
Nikon SB-26 with a shoot-through umbrella – Camera Left (Down)
Nude Nikon SB-26 behind left girl (Vera);
Nude Nikon SB-26 behind right girl (Ani);
Nude Nikon SB-26 with 1/2

580EXII Triggered by Pocket Wizard II Plus,
All three Nikon SB-26s are triggered by Optical Slave
As you can see on the setup photo I am using 4 light, got my 580EXII with a shoot-through umbrella as my main light source at first, then I added the lower umbrella to add some fill with a SB-26, at that time I’ve been often using this Clamshell lighting setup. I have also added 2 backlights, bare SB-26 flashes to add a bit more separation with the background, but I guess their effect is actually not that visible.

On that day it’s been raining all day long, and we were already trying to decide with the girls weather to shoot or not, and if we decide to do where we can go without getting very wet or just shoot it in the rain, hard to decide! It was already getting 5pm, and I was tending to go under one bridge, but suddenly I look through the window, rain stopped! And sun was trying to go out, pretty good luck!

So we took these pictures in a local park at Nada, Kobe, and had to shoot fast, because light was dropping and we were losing it. Anyway we had one of the most beautiful skies I’ve seen that days! The time is around 19:00, just before the sunset in that summer day!

I’m using Canon 50D with a Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC, click here to see some more photos I have with that lens!As usual I am triggering my main flash 580EXII with a Pocket Wizard, and all the secondary flashes are triggered as optical slaves. When I purchase old flashes the main thing I look for is a flash that can be used as optical slave, and the old Nikon SB-26s are I believe the best solution for this, cheap and reliable!

This is still one of my most popular photos, and also one of my personal favorites! Clicking on the photo or the setup shot will direct you to my Flickr Account where you can also see check it out! Any comments and feedback are welcome, I will upload some more setup shots very soon!
