Locations: Takedao abandoned railway /

The great variety of photography spots in Takedao /

For long time I wanted to introduce you one of my favorite locations in the Kansai Area, where I live, Takedao! I’ve been shooting there so many times that I can really call this nice spot kinda my studio! It’s really close to where I live, and it is easy to shoot there without being disturbed by anyone, since not many people are going there… well probably not after I post this article! lol Why I love Takedao so much? Well, look at how many variations of completely different locations you can find there: Dark tunnels, beautiful nature, old rusty bridges, river, stones… etc.! Seriously you could spend hours there and still be able to find new things that are awesome for photography! Check out some of the main spots I have listed below, and the shots I have from there! And believe me these are a really little part of all the photos I have been taking there for the past few years! Enjoy~ and any comments are welcome!

Some blog posts that are from shoots in Takedao are here

The Tunnels in Takedao

The first thing I probably think of when I hear the Takedao name are the old tunnels there! They are really great place to shoot, but also a really good and easy way to create dark-box and play with light, where only your imagination can be limitation to what you can do! I love playing with strobes inside!

The entrance to the Tunnels

Before and after the tunnels is the entrance area, where I usually prepare my stuff, we do the hairmakeup there and just relax between the photoshoot! Also could be a great location for some sessions!

The small arch Tunnel

Here is an interesting spot that I haven’t used that many times, but it is worth going there again I think! Some small arch area which is almost closed and can be used in different ways!

Stroboscopic Shoots at the Tunnels

TTakedao, especially the entrance of the tunnels are great for doing stroboscopic shoots, especially if you want to have not only the strobes light, but some constant light in your shoot for motion blur! Well, here comes the falling light at the entrance of the tunnels!

The Ladder

For people who love high locations! This ladder is also really cool spot for some dramatic photoshoots, I’m having also a BTS video below from here, feel free to check it out!

The Old Bridge

Takedao’s probably best spot, the old rusty bridge that has been used as railway bridge in the past! It is long, and its lines can create really interesting compositions! Not recommended to people who are afraid of high locations, since if you look down it’s the river you see! And it is really high! I have  BTS video for this one as well below!

The Nature Spots Around & Old Rails

There are also some more nature like spots around, green tunnels old rails, etc. so you can create a lot of images for which you might only need simple nature background!

Down at the River

This is another place I haven’t shoot that much as well, but the river in Takedao could also be used in different ways! It’s not the cleanest water there, but still it is a nice river!

The Red Bridge

In the end, on the other side of the station there is a red bridge that could also be an interesting location! I’ve just been there probably couple of times, so here are a few pics from it!

In the end

Now, I am preparing a series of new articles on some general topics, let me know which one of them you want to see first, so I get it ready earlier! Also other ideas are welcome too! Here are some of them: Portraits at night / Lens article (I guess 135/2) / Portraits in the rain / Use of gels / Using backlight / One light setups / Shoots with just one umbrella / General shooting portraits / Can cheap lenses make good photos / Swing the camera shots / Using snoots / Shaped bokeh / … or any other idea welcome, post it in the comments, and I will see if I am able to write about it! Also stay tuned for my new blog section starting soon called “Strobist Diary” There I will talk about many of my off-camera flash techniques from basic things to some advanced stuff!
