Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM

I often advice other photographers to get just one lens, and spend some time with it until you really master it, without even touching a different lens for a while! This time I will be talking about one of my favorite lenses, the Canon 135 mm one, I’ve been using it for a while and I still can’t get enough of it! Often people ask me how I make my style of photography, and this is one of the main factors involved in building that image! This is not a review, and I’m not gonna be testing it with all the possible apertures, or whatever, I’m just showing off some examples of my work that exist thanks to that lens! Many people say that in order to have your images sharp you should not shoot at the widest open aperture of your lens, but dial a third stop or even more… well I don’t care about that! My default setting for this lens is F/2, and I love it like that! Well, that’s of course unless I have something else in mind that really requires some larger DOF, but in any other case I’m at F/2!

Well, to describe in a few words about that lens, first of all it has some really amazing and unique bokeh and nice colors! I also love the perspective it is giving to the photograph, and how it shows the relationship between subject and background (when shooting people especially). I often use it also for close-up face shots, and definitely I prefer it than 50mm or 85mm lenses, also the reason is the perspective of the face! It is also quite a durable lens, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had it really wet after shoots in the rain, and still have no problems! (Of course I don’t encourage you to use it in the rain!)

I’ve been using the lens a while already, and since then I have changed already 3 different camera bodies, here they are:

Canon EOS 50D
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EOS 1D-x

First I used it with the APS-C camera 50D, and actually at that time I was only borrowing it from a friend, which made me want it so much! I finally purchased it a few months after I switched to Full size camera and 5D Mark II, and recently I’m also using it with the Canon 1D-X body! So I’m not going to talk any more, I’m letting the images speak, check them out, I hope you enjoy!

ずっと前からこの記事書きたかった！いつもほかのフォトグラファーにするアドバイスの一つがひとつのレンズをマスターするまでに、ずっとそれを使い続けてください！で、私がもしどこかでレンズ一本だけで行くことになったら、絶対これにします、キャノンの135mm、F/2レンズです！このレンズを使って自分のスタイルの基を作ってます！135mmが基礎で、そこからは照明やほかの焦点距離で写真を自分の世界観で作ります！

この記事はレビューではない、ただカメラマンとして、この立派な道具を使うといったい何ができるのかみたいな感じで自分の135mmを使った写真のアルバムにします！すべての絞りなどが入ってるレビューとかじゃなくて、実際の撮影の結果だけです！よくレンズの話になると、「それぞれのレンズの一番開放設定は使わないほうがいいですよ」ってカメラの先生やレッスンなどで聞いたことがありますが、まぁ、個人的にその「ルール」は完全に無視してますよ！というか、このレンズは当たり前みたいな設定でまずF/2にします！ほとんどの場合はF/2で撮影してます、そして、特に絞る理由がなければはだいたいF/2ですね！

135mmのF/2の一番好きなところはボケと色が綺麗なことで、かなりシャープなレンズです！ポートレートにはすごく向いてます！まぁ、私が50mmや85mmよりも135mmのほうが好きですね！そして、結構ハードなロケでもずっと使ってるし、何回雨で濡らしてるかは覚えたないけど、まだ問題ありません！（もちろん、雨では自己責任で使ってくださいｗ）

今までに135mmのF/2は3つのボディーと使ったことがありますが、キャノンの5D マーク2が一番長いです:

Canon EOS 50D

This is how I met this lens for the first time, I was still using the Canon 50D camera, and a crop sensor, and I borrowed it from a friend, that bokeh and sharpness was so amazing it was love at first sight! Well, it took me around 8 months after that until I got mine, and I’m using it since then as my main lens!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The majority of my photographs with the 135/2 lens are taken with the Canon 5D Mark 2 body, so here are some examples with it! I’ve been using this combination probably for about 2-3 years, and I have some of my favorite photographs taken with it!

And in the end since recently I had switched to the Canon 1D-x body, here are some shots taken with that combination of camera and lens! I still have quite a lot that are not yet ready to show, but I will be updating this article from time to time to keep my new shots in as well!
