Shooting it: Night Lights

So here is a brief description how I shoot one of my favorite photos of Asuka. We haven’t spent a lot of time planning this shoot, the idea was to just go to Namba area in Osaka, and shoot at whatever nice location we find, so there was this wall! This is the building of the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, a nice spot to shoot at night!

Setup

Basically I wanted to have some cool on her after noticing that location, that’s why I put also the Grid on my 80×60 Softbox, which made the light a little bit more directional! Also I didn’t want to spill the light unnecessarily on the wall! I put the softbox at almost 90 degrees angle, as she was about to look at it, which was enough to get some soft light on her!

Then I also put some more flash behind her with a red gel, just to add some different mood, and distinguish her a little bit more from the background, the effect is not that big, but I think that was exactly as much as I wanted it!
I am shooting with my Canon 50D camera, and the 85/1.8 lens, the aperture is wide open @1.8, and the shutter speed is quite slow, 1/15 second! I’m shooting from quite low angle, actually lying on the pavement, trying to hold the camera steady! Model is here is Asuka! We know each other pretty good, and the more we shoot together, the more we don’t even need to as what the other wants to do, so sometimes we only need like 30 minutes to an hour to do a shooting together, which might take longer if I wanna shoot seriously with a model I don’t know that much!
